The Family Start Programme works alongside parents/caregivers to help achieve better health, education and social outcomes for their children.

GOALS

To improve the health, education and wellbeing of children

To focus on child development

To improve parenting

To improve circumstances for parents

To strengthen and improve the family situation

 

 

HOW FAMILY START CAN HELP YOU:

  • Family Start is a free and voluntary home based programme that provides intensive ongoing support to parents of newborn children for the first five years of the child's life.

  • Each family is matched with a family/whanau worker appropriate to their needs.

  • Your family/whanau worker will work with you to develop a plan that best suits the needs of your family.

  • The family/whanau worker will then help your family reach the goals in the plan by co-ordinating any services required, for example: Government Agencies, Budget Advice, Plunket, Counselling, PAFT, etc.

  • If you would like to take advantage of the opprtunity that Family Start can offer you or your children you can phone us or call in to see us.

  • You can also be referred to the programme by other agencies and professionals, including:  Doctors, Midwives, Well Child Providers, Your family/whanau, Other agencies/services.
