Family Works Counselling

Counselling is for any person who is facing difficult life changes. These changes can include loss, grief, relationship breakdown, depression, anxiety and dealing with sexual abuse or violent family situations.

All counsellors are fully qualified and are accredited with their appropriate professional association. Comprehensive group and individual counselling is offered to families, teens, couples, young and old alike. Confidentiality is assured at all times.

A specific range of group programmes are available. These include Growing Taller, Y'z4Kidz, Grandys' Group and Supervision.

Growing Taller

Growing Taller is a fun, activity-based group programme for children aged between six and eleven who may be experiencing stressful life events at home, school or in peer relationships. This may result in the children having difficulty with managing emotions, poor self-image, anxiety, lack of confidence and issues around loss and separation.

The programme provides a forum for children to share and learn skills in a supportive, safe peer environment. Children have the opportunity to change self-perceptions, increase self-esteem, work toward identified goals and learn to identify, express and manage emotions.

Y'z 4 Kidz

Y'z 4 Kidz is a support group for parents and caregivers. The group acts to encourage and support parents in their roles of raising and caring for children and young people.

Topics covered include emotions, independence, relationships, separation and divorce, bullying, praise, punishment and rewards.

Grandys' Group

This programme is for grandparents who have full-time care of their grandchildren. The group aims to address some of the challenges facing grandparents in these circumstances.

Supervision

The counsellors at Family Works provide supervision for those seeking professional development. Supervision is available for those working in the Ministry, counselling, social work, education and health-related areas. Supervision is for professionals who wish to ensure and improve both safety and effectiveness in their work.
